February 19th, we participated in an amazing Masquerade Ball in class in honour of the Bal Masqué that takes place in Quebec during the Carnaval. In order to prepare for the ball, each student had to gather materials to create a mask of their choice for the performance.
We discussed the importance elements of a masked ball from the past and Mlle. Tosh taught us a formal dance that we had to later present. We learnt about couples and traditions associated with Masquerades. In groups of 6 we also had to incorporate our own dance/combinations along with Mlle. Tosh’s portion.
Surprisingly the dance only took us 2 days to learn!
On the day of the performance everyone was dressed up in costumes to suit their roles, as either male or a female.
The performance was outstanding (and funny) because we were all so serious in our roles.
As a surprise Mlle. Tosh bought replicas of wine glasses, wine (grape juice) and made delicious maple syrup cones (Syrup d’érable) which are popular in Quebec, especially during the Carnaval.
We had such an amazing experience!
