Mlle Tosh is extremely proud of her class' involvement in the School board wide heART Project.
Before creating their Artwork, they explored and discussed the issues surrounding HIV/AIDS in Africa. Through research, they saw the alarming statistics of orphans in Africa, and learnt about the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the Grandmother's to Grandmother's Campaign.
We read the African Childrens' book Sitwe goes to school to gain a better understanding of what life is like for the children in Africa and how they are educated about AIDS/HIV.
We never realized owning your own pencil could be a dream.
JoAnne O'shea, from the Barrie Chapter Grandmother's to Grandmother's Campaign came to our class to explain the Campaign and give us a more personal understanding of how AIDS/HIV affect all members of a family in Africa.
With her help, we redefined the way Canadians stereotype grandmothers. No longer did we see them as old, frail women who bake cookies and give hugs, but now they are strong and wise women who are can empower, create movements
and inspire the world.
For the final project, each student was required to create some artwork which depicts their personal interpretation of what one of the SCDSB’s 10 Character Traits mean to them. The extension challenge was to take their vision one step further and connect AIDS/HIV awareness.
The final products were outstanding!
Through their written component,
the students made strong and complex connections to all elements of the unit.
WAY TO GO MLLE TOSH GRADE 7s!
